Chiang Mai and most of the rest of northern Thailand is in
the midst of an annual blanket of “haze” at the moment. Perhaps more accurately
called smog, it is a mixture of aerial pollution from forest fires,
agricultural burning and traffic exhaust all held in place by a lack of rain
and high pressure weather systems.
Many people walk the streets in face masks but this man
seems to have taken to carrying a small towel around for the purpose. At least,
that’s what I assume he’s doing.
